I didn’t quite achieve the most important goal I had set myself for 2017, which was a bit of a downer. However I did begin to understand what I needed to do in order to potentially be a step closer in 2018.
It’s something I’ve been wanting for a while and I realise this isn’t going to come easy. There are so many hurdles to climb over and at times, I’ve felt overwhelmed and like I’m wanting too much. You really come to see how tiny you are in the grand scheme of things.
Right now this goal seems like another lifetime away, when in 2017 my naivety made me feel like it was within reach. That was before I realised I would need to put in a lot of groundwork – much more than I have been doing recently.
Keep goal digging in the background
By not achieving my number one goal last year, I inadvertently discovered other things surrounding me that I wasn’t aware of; I realised not everyone has my back, I realised my worth in certain situations and I came to accept that I can’t escape work politics, no matter how much I don’t want to be apart of it.
I’ve also realised that not everyone needs to know everything. Sometimes a handful of people who genuinely care about you is better off being part of your hustle instead of hoards of people who may not exactly wish well for you. So going into 2018 I’m tightening that circle and blocking out negative vibes and energy. It feels SO good to do this and cutting out what doesn’t serve you doesn’t have to be this huge declaration where you make someone feel like crap. Make the intention, see it through and keep moving.
It’s not all doom and gloom though. Realising these things all have a positive outcome; I’m making my circle of friends smaller, I’m getting more focused about where I want to be and what I want to do and making better use of my time.
So, I suppose in a way, my most important goal that I achieved in 2017 was having a better sense of who I am. Especially as I’m approaching that big 3-0, I’d like to at least leave my twenties understanding the kind of person I’m evolving into.
